Follow rugged trails to the legendary Cape São Vicente, the southwesternmost point of Europe. This remarkable stretch of coastline offers dramatic cliffs, golden beaches, and the powerful rhythm of the Atlantic. Wander through untouched landscapes, charming whitewashed villages, and sun-drenched coastal trails that feel miles away from the everyday world. Whether you seek adventure, serenity, or breathtaking views, the Southwest Atlantic Coast delivers an unforgettable blend of raw nature and authentic Portuguese charm.
Upon arrival at Faro Airport, a Bikesul representative will greet and transfer you to your hotel in Santiago do Cacém (ca. 2h car travel). If you are flying to Lisbon airport we can organize you a transfer to the hotel (ca. 1h30 car travel). Santiago do Cacém is a beautiful peaceful town in the Alentejo region, whose origins date back to remote times. In the Roman period, it was an important town situated on the road linking Lisbon to the Algarve, a factor which greatly contributed to its development.
Following a brief introduction and bike adjustments, if there is time, you can opt to explore Santiago do Cacém or just relax by the hotel.

From Santiago do Cacém start by following the "Camino Historico" of the Rota Vicentina through a beautiful countryside scenic trail. Let Immerse yourself in the serene beauty of Portugal’s Alentejo region!
As cycle towards south, sweeping hills, ancient cork oaks, and olive groves create a timeless, rustic panorama. Ride through tranquil country roads lined with spring wildflowers and feel the gentle breeze as you approach the coastline.
Already in the protected area of the "Parque Natural da Costa Vicentina e Sudoeste Alentejano" follow a scenic road along the Atlantic Coast that takes you to the lovely village of Porto Covo.
The Fortress at the Ilha do Pessegueiro beach will provide you a unique view over the area and the gravel section ahead is really quiet and mervellous.
The destination of day is Vila Nova de Milfontes a beautiful riverside village on Portugal’s Alentejo coastline. Set on the northern bank of the Mira River, it lies within the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park—an area of exceptional natural beauty. With a population of around 5,600, Vila Nova de Milfontes has the peaceful, laid-back atmosphere that makes the Alentejo so beloved.

The shortest and easiest ride of this tour, this is a perfect day to relax much more, even during the course as it will be mostly flat and scenic!
Cabo Sardão and the section ahead will be the hotspot of this days. The journey then leads to dramatic cliff riding, showcasing the raw beauty of Portugal’s Atlantic coastline.
Visit charming fishing ports where dramatic cliffs meet the Atlantic Ocean. Explore picturesque seaside villages known for their sweeping ocean views, whitewashed houses, and colourful fishing boats. Along these coastal trails, you’ll discover yet another series of breathtaking panoramas—towering cliffs, hidden coves, and unspoiled beaches

This day begins with an inland countryside section through Brejão and Vale Juncalinho with an authentic rural ambiance and surrounding natural beauty. A fast and steep downhill takes you to São Miguel village and the Seixe river that marks the border between Alentejo and Algarve regions.
In the Algarve already you will visit Odeceixe one of the Algarve’s most charming and distinctive villages, perched at the northern edge of the region right. Nestled in a peaceful valley, it is known for its whitewashed houses with colourful trim, narrow winding streets, and a relaxed atmosphere.
Follow a tarmac road west towards the coastline and you get to the stunning Praia de Odeceixe, one of Portugal’s most iconic beaches. This unique beach lies at the mouth of the Ribeira de Seixe, where the river forms a calm lagoon before meeting the Atlantic Ocean—creating a dramatic contrast between gentle waters on one side and rolling waves on the other.
Continuing to the south surrounded by untouched beauty you will then pass by Aljezur, the main village of this area. A picturesque village in the western Algarve, known for its peaceful atmosphere, dramatic landscapes, and deep historical roots, offering a blend of unspoiled nature and traditional Portuguese charm.
A steep coobled road takes you to the ruins of the medieval castle of Aljezur. This is an idyllic spot to take a breathe and soak in the peaceful atmosphere. Climb a bit more and you will arrive at Arrifana. This gravel day tour offers the perfect blend of nature, history, and coastal adventure, delivering an unforgettable experience along Portugal’s stunning coastline.

This will be the longest and most challenging ride of this tour. Start by visiting Pontal da Carrapateira, a breathtaking viewpoint where rugged cliffs meet turquoise waters, creating a scene of unparalleled beauty. Then follow a great section of the EuroVelo 1 route towards Carrapateira. Cycling through the cliffs with several spectacular viewpoints over the ocean and some wild beaches you will then visit Amado beach, the most popular surf spot from south of Portugal. From here, the ride heads south to Cape São Vicente, the southwesternmost point of continental Europe—a magical and legendary spot once visited by sailors and pilgrims alike. Towering cliffs and sweeping coastal vistas surround you, offering a rare opportunity to witness migratory birds in this remarkable natural setting. You’ll immerse yourself in the untamed beauty of Portugal’s Vicentina Coast, a route brimming with pristine beaches, natural wonders, and the spirit of exploring.

Your last cycling day will be diverse but also memorable! Get ready to be captivated on the unforgettable final day of your gravel cycling adventure! Cycle through the Algarve’s most iconic landscapes, discovering breathtaking sights that most visitors never experience. As you approach Lagos, visit typical coastal villages as Salema - also called the Portuguese Santorini, Burgau and Praia da Luz, and let the endless horizon and the deep blue waves crashing onto golden sandy beaches take your breath away—this is the Algarve at its most spectacular!
But you couldn't finish this trip without visiting Ponta da Piedade, Lagos’ iconic jewel! Here, dramatic cliffs bathed in golden sunlight rise above a labyrinth of enchanting sea grottos, creating a landscape that feels almost otherworldly. This final stage of your gravel tour is more than a ride—it’s an immersion into the magic, beauty, and spirit of Portugal’s most scenic coastline, a perfect finale to an extraordinary journey.
